A Much Needed Win in the Bronx

MLSML0916151373.jpg

New York City FC picked up a much needed win last night in the Bronx keeping Toronto FC scoreless in a 2-0 finish.  NYCFC is down in the points race, but not completely out of playoff contention with a few games left in the season.  After a year of controversy and injury, Frank Lampard nets his first goal for the club off a running bicycle kick assist from RJ Allen.

For this one I decided on two remote cameras, one in the center behind the goal with a super-wide angle (14mm 2.8), and another around half-way between the six and eighteen yard boxes on the endline with a 50mm lens to catch any action in the box with the crowd behind.  As always I love my portraits and shot more of them than action.  Always fun to see members of the US National Team of which we had three in Mix, Bradley, and Altidore.  Enjoy!

Tim Cahill warms up on the sidelines a few days after flying back from World Cup 2014 in Brazil

Tim Cahill warms up on the sidelines a few days after flying back from World Cup 2014 in Brazil

With the group stage of the World Cup over, the New York Red Bulls were back in action against Toronto FC in regular season MLS play at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.  Michael Bradley was of course still in Brazil, playing with the USA today against Belgium in the first of the knockout rounds.  Tim Cahill suited up only a day or two after arriving back from Brazil; his left-footed volley from over the shoulder to the top of the net has to have been one of the best goals of World Cup 2014.  This was my first time seeing Jermaine Defoe, former English national-teamer; the guy is tiny, but faaast.

The Red Bulls struggled for momentum and went down 2-1 to Toronto.  Near the 70th minute coach Peke called up play-maker Cahill into the game; the crowd went wild.  Cahill made waves assisting Bradley Wright-Phillips with a goal in the 93rd minute of play.
