Somewhat Lackluster

National Teamers

Always fun being on the field with members of the US Men's National Team..particularly this most recent World Cup squad that we all cheered so hard for.  I would rather have not seen Jermaine Jones score on our New York Red Bulls, but it was cool watching him on the pitch; he's a force to be reckoned with.  While not nearly his first time in Red Bull Arena, it was nice to see the New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen called up to the national team for the most recent friendlies; he's a scrappy player who will fight as hard as anyone for a loose ball.

The United States defeated Turkey this past Sunday 2-1 inside Red Bull Arena in the second of their three game run-up to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil later this month.  While the US could have played a more tidy game, a couple of stars shone through with key plays.  Twenty-six year old defender Fabian Johnson nailed home his first international goal off a gem of a short-lob from Michael Bradley.  The United States will finish off this series against Nigeria June 7th in Jacksonville, Florida before hitting Estadio das Dunas against Ghana in the first round of the World Cup.

The boys in red, white, and blue ran through the paces today in front of an open public crowd at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.  A few thousand fans came out to cheer on the US Men's National Team before their friendly tomorrow against Turkey as a warm-up send-off to the 2014 World Cup this month in Brazil.  This stayed fairly light, with the exception of Clint Dempsey staying down after a hard tackle.  Helped back on his feet after a few seconds on the ground grabbing his leg, he limped back into the scrimmage and didn't seem too worse for wear.  Looking forward to see how the friendly goes tomorrow.  Fun to think these guys are going to be on the big stage in only two short weeks.

The USMNT took a little time today to speak to the press before returning their focus to this coming Sunday's match against Turkey at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.  The team is swinging through town on a three game run-up to the World Cup coming up shortly in Brazil.  Having grown up watching a long haired young Jurgen Klinsman smashing in goals on old VHS tapes I was especially excited to see him in person.  I would have loved to have seen Landon Donovan as well, but those are the breaks.  Looking forward to watching the team in their open public practice tomorrow at 11:00 am, also across the river at Red Bull Arena.
