Red Bulls in Fine Form

The New York Red Bulls go into the weekend tied for first place in the league with FC Dallas having beaten the Philadelphia Union at home 4-1 last week, their final regular season home game for the year.  Both the Red Bulls and Dallas have the chance to take home the Supporter's Shield this weekend, the trophy for the most regular season wins in the MLS.  To make things more interesting, the league changed the start times of both teams' games so they coincide.  Either way, the Red Bulls have sealed their own fate into the playoffs and will host the Conference Semi-Finals Sunday, November 8th at Red Bull Arena.  Photos above are from this weekend's win over Philadelphia; enjoy!

A Much Needed Win in the Bronx

New York City FC picked up a much needed win last night in the Bronx keeping Toronto FC scoreless in a 2-0 finish.  NYCFC is down in the points race, but not completely out of playoff contention with a few games left in the season.  After a year of controversy and injury, Frank Lampard nets his first goal for the club off a running bicycle kick assist from RJ Allen.

For this one I decided on two remote cameras, one in the center behind the goal with a super-wide angle (14mm 2.8), and another around half-way between the six and eighteen yard boxes on the endline with a 50mm lens to catch any action in the box with the crowd behind.  As always I love my portraits and shot more of them than action.  Always fun to see members of the US National Team of which we had three in Mix, Bradley, and Altidore.  Enjoy!

Eight Goal Game

New York City FC continues picking on teams from the great white north by picking up a point off of Toronto FC with a 4-4 tie.  Three notable US Team stars were absent on Gold Cup Duty: Mix Diskerud, Jozy Altidore, and Michael Bradley.  Sunday's game marked the debut of two possible stand-out stars, the experienced Andoni Iraola and the fierce new young gun Angelino.  NYCFC's next home game against Orlando FC will (hopefully) feature two even bigger stars, Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo.  NYC still hangs in the playoff hunt despite a mediocre start to their season; anything is possible as they keep adding firepower to the lineup.  How all these new names will mesh however remains to be seen.

Hudson River Derby

The first ever cross-town rivalry match between the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC is in the books with the Red Bulls winning at home 2-1.  The atmosphere in the stadium was absolutely electric; the noise from both ends was as loud as I've ever heard at Red Bull Arena.  In the end, despite Matt Miazga being sent off in the first half, Bradley Wright-Phillips was able to take advantage of holes in the NYCFC defense netting two goals for the win.

The boys in red, white, and blue ran through the paces today in front of an open public crowd at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.  A few thousand fans came out to cheer on the US Men's National Team before their friendly tomorrow against Turkey as a warm-up send-off to the 2014 World Cup this month in Brazil.  This stayed fairly light, with the exception of Clint Dempsey staying down after a hard tackle.  Helped back on his feet after a few seconds on the ground grabbing his leg, he limped back into the scrimmage and didn't seem too worse for wear.  Looking forward to see how the friendly goes tomorrow.  Fun to think these guys are going to be on the big stage in only two short weeks.
